Air Fryer Baked Camembert
A molten camembert in 12 minutes. Why it stays in the wooden box, where to score it, and when to stop checking and start dipping.
Ingredients
- 1 camembert, 250g, in its wooden box
- 1 garlic clove, cut into thin slivers
- A few sprigs of fresh thyme
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 baguette, sliced, to serve
Method
- Take the camembert out of its box, unwrap it completely, and sit it back down in the wooden box.
- Score a shallow cross into the top rind with a small sharp knife.
- Push the garlic slivers and thyme sprigs down into the cuts.
- Drizzle over the honey and the olive oil.
- Sit the box flat in the air fryer basket and air fry at 180°C (355°F) for 12 minutes, checking from 10.
- It is ready when the centre is completely molten and the top has fallen open. Serve straight away with the baguette.
Notes
- Keep it in the wooden box. The box and the rind together are what hold it in — without the box it runs out across the basket and you lose half of it.
- No box? Sit it on a double layer of foil with the edges turned up into a tray shape.
- Published times run from 10 to 15 minutes. Start checking at 10 and stop when a knife tip meets no resistance in the middle.
- Toast the baguette slices in the basket alongside it for the last 4-5 minutes.
- It sets again as it cools, so serve it the moment it comes out.
- Air fryer models vary. Treat the times as a guide, go by colour and crispness, and adjust the seasoning to your taste.
Watch it
Air fryer models vary in power and basket size, so treat the times here as a guide — go by colour and crispness rather than the clock, and adjust the seasoning and glaze to your taste.

A 250g camembert, unwrapped and returned to its wooden box, scored in a cross, studded with garlic and thyme and baked at 180°C (355°F). Published times range from 10 to 15 minutes; 12 with checking from 10 is the corroborated middle. Every source keeps it in the wooden box — the box and the rind together are what stop it running out across the basket.
