Ingredients

  • 400g frozen chips
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Malt vinegar, to serve

Method

  1. Straight from frozen. Tip the chips into the basket straight from the freezer. Do not defrost and do not add oil - they are already coated.
  2. Single layer. Spread them into as close to a single layer as you can. A heaped basket steams the chips in the middle.
  3. Air fry. Cook at 200°C (390°F) for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway point.
  4. Season. Tip out and season immediately with the salt and paprika, while the surface is still hot enough for it to stick.

Notes

  • Do not add oil. Frozen chips are already coated in it and more just makes them greasy.
  • Never defrost them. Frozen chips go from freezer to basket, always.
  • Season the second they come out. Wait and the salt slides straight off.
  • Air fryer models vary. Treat the times as a guide, go by colour and crispness, and adjust the seasoning to your taste.

Watch it

Air fryer models vary in power and basket size, so treat the times here as a guide — go by colour and crispness rather than the clock, and adjust the seasoning and glaze to your taste.
