Air Fryer Egg Toast
Air fryer egg toast with a set white and a runny yolk. Why the slice has to be thick and the well deep, and when to start checking.
Ingredients
- 1 thick slice of bread (about 2cm)
- 1 tsp soft butter
- 1 egg
- 15g cheddar, grated (optional)
- Salt and black pepper
Method
- Butter the slice right to the edges.
- Press the back of a spoon firmly into the middle to make a deep well, leaving a raised rim all the way round.
- Scatter the cheese round the rim, keeping the well clear.
- Crack the egg into the well.
- Lift the slice flat into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 180°C (355°F) for about 7 minutes for a set white and soft yolk. Start checking at 5 minutes; give it 8-9 minutes for a firm yolk.
- Season with salt and pepper and eat straight away.
Notes
- Use a thick slice. Thin bread has no rim to hold the egg, and the white runs off into the basket.
- Press the well deep. A shallow dip overflows the moment the egg goes in.
- If your basket has wide holes, sit the toast on a small square of baking paper cut to the size of the slice. Never put loose paper in on its own: the fan lifts it into the element.
- Every air fryer runs differently with eggs. Check the first one at 5 minutes and note your time.
- Air fryer models vary. Treat the times as a guide, go by colour and crispness, and adjust the seasoning to your taste.
Air fryer models vary in power and basket size, so treat the times here as a guide — go by colour and crispness rather than the clock, and adjust the seasoning and glaze to your taste.
